Class 2, May 15th, 2013 Chapters 1 & 2---Summarizer
One summer 10 year old India Opal Buloni went to the local Winn Dixie for some necessities and returned with a dog. As Opal was looking for some tomatoes in the produce section, she witnessed a big commotion centered on a “big ugly” dog. That was wreaking havoc in the store. To save the dog from the pound, Opal claimed him as hers. She calls him the first thing that comes to mind, Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie is a mess of a dog, he is skinny with bald patches in his fur, but he is a dog that has a “sense of humor” and Opal immediately falls in love with him. As they head home, Opal tells Winn Dixie about her dad the preacher. She tells him about her name, and about her new home. Opal hopes that “the preacher” (her dad) would cave in and allow her to Winn Dixie since he is a suffering soul and is in need of taking care of. At first the preacher refuses to take in the dog but Opal doesn’t give in and sends Winn Dixie to meet her dad. Winn Dixie smiles at the preacher and finds a home.
